Nigerian Programs

Country of Focus: Nigeria

The Nigerian Initiative

Nigeria is the country of focus for the Young Scholars Program and Sustainable Education Program.

We selected a primary and secondary schools in Nigeria where the quality of education can be improved by donating academic materials such as books and providing full tuition scholarships to students.  In many parts of Nigeria, secondary school is not publicly funded by the government, therefore, families are required to pay tuition fees. School tuition can range from hundreds to thousands of dollars, a cost out of reach for many families living on less than $2 dollars a day. Although primary school is provided by the government, the cost of uniforms and books are often too expensive for parents.

KP Young Scholars Program

Kechie’s Project offers scholarships to selected girls in Nigeria who are promising students. Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievements and financial needs. Girls selected as Young Scholars receive funding throughout their time in secondary school to met all academic needs so they can attend school regularly. Upon graduating from secondary school, Young Scholars will have an opportunity to receive a vocational college or university scholarship.

Sustainable Education Program

The Sustainable Education Program is a comprehensive approach to improve the quality of education by providing schools with the academic resources they need. Many schools lack computers, books, chairs, desks, pencils and paper. We recognize that in order to fulfill our mission to empower girls through education, we need to ensure that they have access to schools with sufficient academic resources.
